Godly Play

At 9:30 on Sunday mornings the children gather for Godly Play.  They leave their shoes in the hallway as a reminder that, when they enter the classroom, they’re on holy ground.  The storyteller for that week shares with the children one of the stories of our faith - the story of Moses and the burning bush, or maybe the story of the boy Jesus in the temple.  The stories are told using simple wooden figures that show the action without filling in all the blanks.  In Godly Play, the goal is to create a space in which God can speak to the children and they can listen.  Open-ended questions about the stories encourage children to listen for what God might be teaching them.  Then children respond to the stories: some draw or paint what they’ve heard, while others use our many age-appropriate reference books to learn more.  Children then share a feast together and pray before returning to their parents.
